MOVE
The MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) programme is used at Mapledown School in order to progress students, with complex physical disabilities, in the functional skills of sitting, standing and walking. The MOVE programme is offered to all students with physical disabilities and is woven into their daily routines. The aim of the MOVE programme is to acquire and maintain new skills, which are then generalised into everyday situations. In addition to this we aim to improve the student’s general health and fitness, by increasing bone density, improving circulation and flexibility and enable them to work towards a more confident and independent life. |
MOVE is discussed at Annual Reviews with parents and parental involvement is actively sought.
The MOVE team currently comprises, two Trainers, twenty two move Practioners, a Physiotherapist, Physiotherapy Assistant and Class Teams who work together to teach and practise the acquisition of skills. All staff in classes that have students in their class that are on the MOVE Programme MOVE Practitioners.
Each student participating in the MOVE programme has a weekly MOVE session with a MOVE trainer. This session concentrates on acquiring and practising skills which can then be taken into the classroom and practised on a daily basis.
The majority of MOVE takes place on a daily basis as it is incorporated into classroom and social routines throughout the day.
